Also an Octopus

Title:  Also an Octopus

Author:  Maggie Tokuda-Hall

Illustrator:  Benji Davies

Also an Octopus is an action-filled exploration of how a story comes to be. It opens by declaring that all stories start with nothing. It’s up to the writer or storyteller to add the necessary parts: characters, motivations, obstacles, and resolutions. The narrator teaches the readers about these different components by walking them through the story of an octopus who wants to travel to space but cannot build a rocket to get there. The story itself is funny and charming, and the lesson on parts of a story is woven in very cleverly. The octopus solves his problem and the book ends on an encouraging note that will inspire readers to start making their own stories.
